Youngest children, least paid

The situation is remarkable more acute for child care suppliers working with children below age 5.

In Connecticut, early educators with a bachelor’s stage are paid 31.3% less than their colleagues within the K-8 gadget, according to the Center for the Be aware of Child Care Employment. A community effort

If it takes a village to raise a child, what does it take to raise that village? That’s one thing Chums Center’s constructing partners at Yale regarded as when creating teacher housing.

“We’re no longer attempting to create a single home, nonetheless a village where a community can thrive,” says Adam Hopfner, director of the Jim Vlock constructing program at Yale. “We’re creating a village of kinds, whereby collective residing can income no longer perfect the families of teachers nonetheless also the children being taught by the teachers.”

Six teachers and their families currently live in teacher housing. When the village is achieved, Chums Center hopes to home 24 teachers, or 30% of its anticipated 80-teacher workforce, by 2027. In 2023, it penned a 5-year agreement with the Yale Faculty of Architecture to gain four additional properties.
